NP Artlab

NP ArtLab is a project dedicated to the research and promotion of Contemporary art practices and aims to support and enhance emerging, mid-career and established artists. The program includes exhibitions conceived on the dialogue between different media of established and young artists belonging to the emerging contemporary art scene and takes place in a private space based in Corso Monforte 23, Milan. The project includes events, in-person and online, with cultural and commercial purposes in synergy and collaboration with other art professionals.

The initiative is conceived by Neri Pagnan (NP), enthusiastic collector and secondary art market’s dealer, who started collecting established artists of the twentieth century, and later Italian and international emerging artists. This action highlights how the two art markets , the established and the emerging one, are different but equally interconnected and how the works by young artists often look to the past, to masters of the Twentieth century ore refer to previous periods. In this sense. NP ArtLab tries to create and interpret the aesthetic and conceptual dialogue between artists of different generations using critic and curatorial supports.

LOOP IN SPACE AND LIGHT

CECILIA COCCO AND PETER DREHER

Repetition in contemporary painting with Peter Dreher’s endless analysis of light from the 1970s to the early 21st century in dialogue with Cecilia Cocco’s fresh and refined painting where the subject floats in different spatial dimensions.

The project investigates untranslatable languages, those experiences that escape verbal narration and are only expressed through the body and sensoriality. At the centre of the reflection is the act of sleeping together, understood as a symbol of exchange between bodies. Sharing a space designed for the individual, such as the bed – 80 cm by 190 – in two, becomes a metaphor for the complexity of the encounter.

How do we adapt, shape, fit together to find coexistence in a space created for unity? Which parts of the body come into contact? What dance is activated to maintain this delicate balance?

The installation develops through the projection of a video onto a symbolic canopy, which delimits a suspended and intimate space. Two subjects are filmed separately as they move around the bed, following autonomous trajectories. In the montage, their bodies merge into a single visual dimension: they brush against each other, meet, interpenetrate, dreamily recreating a bodily dialogue impossible in reality.

The video becomes the evocative space in which the act of sharing sleeping together is still possible. The bed is thus transformed into an ambivalent place: a dimension of reunion and a memorial of loss.
